This CAA Approved Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) course combines the requirements for personnel responsible for preparing dangerous goods consignments for transport by air.
Using a competency-based training and assessment (CBTA) approach, the course covers the full process from classification and preparation through documentation, package checks, and final acceptance.
Key topics include dangerous goods classification, limitations, packing requirements, marking and labelling, documentation, State and operator variations, acceptance procedures, identifying discrepancies, undeclared or mis-declared dangerous goods, and emergency response requirements.
On successful completion, learners will be equipped to prepare dangerous goods consignments to comply with ICAO and IATA regulations.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the regulatory framework, limitations, roles, hazard communication and emergency-response principles that underpin the safe transport of dangerous goods by air.
- Classify dangerous goods and determine the applicable class or division, packing group, UN number, Proper Shipping Name and special provisions in accordance with the IATA DGR.
- Prepare a dangerous goods consignment for air transport by applying the applicable limitations, packing, marking, labelling, overpack and documentation requirements.
- Identify and report dangerous goods accidents, incidents, undeclared or mis-declared dangerous goods and other reportable occurrences in accordance with applicable procedures.

Classroom
In-person courses are available upon request for group bookings (4+ candidates). The course is delivered over 3 days for the initial course, or 2 days for the refresher.
Examination
Various exercises and short assessments are provided throughout the course to prepare for the final exam.

Candidates must have access to the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations to complete the exercises and examination. It can be the current or previous edition, digital or manual version. If required, it can be purchased from Labeline or IATA.
Requirements
The course must be completed within 3 months of registration.
To complete the training and exam, candidates must have access to the current, or previous edition of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, either in digital or hard copy format.
Certificate
Upon successful completion of the examination, candidates are awarded a UK CAA registered certificate, valid for 24 months after completion.
For audit purposes, the certificate clearly shows the CAA approval, and applicable IATA functions.
Employers may wish to supplement the course with role-specific on-the-job training and assessments.
